It isn’t perfect by any means but if they every decide to update it I would love LABO Keyboard Support or full touchscreen support. I’ve been playing this non-stop since I received my review copy. If you are musician I would give this a go to be honest. I do see myself working with my students to do a project with this in the feature so if we could get LABO support that would be even better. Another issue could be price as iPad or Tablet versions have better support and more expansive but for the Switch this works well. It is easy to use and I found myself quickly getting the hang of using it after a few hours. You don’t need to be a master to get enjoyment out of this application, if you are though there is plenty to take in.
Since the layout is pretty simple someone who doesn’t know music can just pick something and play around with it. Playing multiple has to be the most fun as even people who haven’t touched an instrument can easily get working on a song with someone. The other issue is buttons are the worst way of making music as there is no way to hook up any device to the Switch, movement is a bit slow and hard to quickly edit something. This happens a lot when you are messing with the settings but work fine when a keyboard is on screen. The biggest drawback is that touchscreen doesn’t work all the time so while working on something you may want to touch the screen but nothing will happen. I was able to test it out with my students and they seemed to have a lot of fun with it due to the splitscreen aspect and being able to work on pieces together even though everyone was on a different screen.
This is just something fun to mess around with during your free time if you don’t have an entire set up for it. It does make sense since this tool isn’t for any hardcore musicians or professionals. Many people were upset at launch because it lacked an export and while I think it is fairly weird that it doesn’t. I still feel as though it isn’t great but I will be sharing gameplay of me working on it for a bit. I found myself slowly recreating Daft Punk’s Something About Us on it but took hours trying to get it just right. Personally I am a music teacher so this was an interesting device to work on while on my free time. KORG Gadget is more of a tool for semi-professionals that own a Switch or a musician that just wants to test things out while on the go. If you didn’t notice I removed the Story and Gameplay since these aren’t a thing for an application like this. I like this icon because it does show exactly what you expect: Just read the full review as this isn’t as much of a game as a device for musicians. Short Review (Review copy provided by Detune) KORG Gadget – Nintendo Switch – Released: 4/26/18 – $48.00 Sometimes you just want to recreate some music on the go!
